It's Been Awhile!

Hey all! I know I know...I haven't written in FOREVER!!! Between school and the holidays everything has been madness! :) But the semester is almost over and I cannot wait for a little break and time to get to Ohio again and see everyone! Yay!!!! So...what has happened since last time I wrote? Hmm...Mike is still liking his job on most days. It's hard work (ten hour days six days a week!) but he says it's at least not boring work. I am still chipping away at school. I have about two and a half weeks left until Christmas break. I got my first B on an exam in Anatomy...woe is me! haha I guess I can live with that...but I still want an A in that class!!! Ruby got ANOTHER ear infection two weeks ago and her doctor told us that we are going to just have to bite the bullet and accept that she needs tubes put in her ears. I am not completely sold but I know that it is painful for her to keep going through this. I just do not like the idea of her being put under anesthesia. She's just a baby (my baby!) and it just seems too dangerous! So, probably right around the beginning of the year...once Mike's insurance has kicked in and everything has settled down, Ruby will be having surgery (albeit minor!) to have tubes placed in her ears. The even cruddier part is that they perform the surgeries on weekdays and schedule them according to the patients age (the youngest patients go first for the day). That means that Mike will not be able to go with me to take Ruby for it. I am not pleased with that and it makes me even more nervous. I will most likely be having to recruit one of his parents or someone because I cannot do that alone!!!
Other than that, things are going pretty well here. We miss everyone back around Ohio and the home area! I will probably forget to post again until after Christmas so don't be surprised if the next title is "Happy New Year!". Talk again soon!!! Bye!

Trick or Treat!

Hey all! We have had another relatively normal week. We are all back in the swing of things after mine and Ruby's trip back to Ohio. Ruby is having to get used to daycare again though! She was definitely not pleased the first few days that I dropped her off, but today and yesterday she just got down and played right away without crying and screaming when I left. That makes for a much happier start to our days. I always feel awful walking out on her when she's crying!!! Mike...once again!...got out of taking Ruby for another shot this week! She had to go get the other half of her flu vaccine, and as soon as she hit the crinkly paper on the exam table she just lost it. You could almost see all of the memories of the doctor's office come flooding back to her. I made sure the schedule her next check up at a time when daddy can be present! :)
Not a whole lot is happening here though. One of our cars broke down yesterday...what's new?! The drama of life never stops happening at our house! haha So Mike is walking to work for a few days until we go buy a new battery for the car. And don't worry...before you feel too bad....he just has to walk across the street to get to work.
As far as school goes...I have another exam and quiz tomorrow (Nutrition and A&P) and today in my Drawing class I matted my work for a student art exhibit that begins next week. Pretty exciting! I did a graphite drawing of a picture that Mike took of Ruby's feet on the day she was born. I will have to remember to take a picture of it and post it on Flickr. It turned out awesome and I can't wait to bring it home and hang it up. Other than that, nothing is really happening here.
I did post some pictures from Ruby's first trick-or-treat on Flickr (she dressed up as Snow White this year). She gets to dress up for school tomorrow for a parade at her daycare and then we are heading over to Hutchinson (to meet up w/ Mike's family) so all three girls can go trick-or-treating. Ruby gets to rake Mommy and Daddy in some candy!!! :)
Hope all is well with everyone else! We miss you all!
Love,
Mike, Al, and Ruby

Back from Ohio... :(

Well...back to our normal schedule. We had such a great visit home this last weekend! It was so awesome to see everyone and just be back home for a few days (even though I feel like I barely got to see everyone!!). We got to go to Ikea with Grandma and Papa...we finally have some knives now! haha....I know that is just so exciting right?! We also at least got to say hello to most of the family in the area. It will be a lot better at Christmas time when we don't have to rush around to make sure we see everyone and can actually take our time to visit!
I'm back in the swing of things at school. Anatomy quiz tomorrow already! Gotta love it! :) I got my midterm grades back and have a 4.0 so far this semester. Obviously I am very happy with that and hopefully I can maintain that throughout the rest of the semester.
Mike got moved around at his job last week. He was building the radiators and engines for the combines and his boss moved him to a different area of the assembly line. Now he is actually mounting the engine onto the combine and hooking up all of the hoses and stuff...I know nothing about engines or anything related to them! But he is really liking this area too so that's all that matters.
Then there's little miss Ruby! She was definitely not excited about getting back to her normal schedule Wednesday morning bright and early at 6:30!!! She screamed like crazy when I dropped her off at daycare and then they said she actually ended up taking about a 3.5 hour long nap that day!! She was so used to sleeping in all weekend while we were in Ohio! She was mad again this morning when I dropped her off but when I went to pick her up she actually didn't want to come with me :).
Other than that, nothing exciting is happening around here. Ruby is coloring with her bath crayons with daddy as we speak...she loves anything that she thinks is messy!
So now I am missing Ohio once again and re-counting down the days until we're back again. Some days it starts to feel really heavy and depressing to be this far from everyone I am so close to but I know that in the long run this is going to be so much better for us. I just try to keep thinking in days instead of years or months and that seems to help somewhat. We miss everyone we are away from and can't wait to see everyone again! Love ya!

It's been awhile....sorry!

Hey everybody! I know I haven't written for awhile...it's been busy around here between school/work/daycare/etc. Mike is still liking his job, especially since he's gotten his first paycheck now! :) It was a big relief to finally get to not waiting for that check. We can finally get our finances back to normal. School is also going really great. I got a 98 on my last anatomy test, which I was obviously very excited about! So, I am still holding a steady A in all of my classes. Also, I am LOVING my Intro to Drawing class. It has been a huge stress reliever in between my other classes. Plus I love my art teacher....she is very cool and funny and just let's us go with the flow. No deadlines or boring projects! :)
Ruby has also been doing pretty good. She has had a rough few weeks though. About three weeks ago she started waking up screaming a lot at night so we took her in to the doctor. We found out that she had a double ear infection and she was put on amoxicillin. She seemed to feel a little better for a few days after that, but then she started spiking fevers again about a week later and waking up again at night. So, we got her back into the doctor again only to find out that the amoxicillin never worked and she still had a double ear infection. She had to get an antibiotic injection that day and then they put her on a new antibiotic. Well, as if that wasn't enough for her to go through, about two days after starting her new antibiotic she broke out in hives all over and we had to head back to the doctor AGAIN! She had an allergic reaction to the 2nd antibiotic and is now on round three. The poor thing, I think she is ready for things to just get back to normal
On a better note....WE'RE COMING HOME IN ABOUT A WEEK!!!! WE CAN'T WAIT!!! Ruby and I will be flying home next Thursday. Blake tells us everytime we talk to him that he is picking us up at the airport in grandma's van. He has been saving Ruby a seat in van since we left! I am just so excited to get home and see everyone. The move has been hitting me here and there more often now that things are settling in around here. Little things just remind me of how much I miss home. But it will be so much sweeter when I can move back that way AS A NURSE! Can't wait until that day!
Well, that's all for now. Hopefully see some of you soon! Love you all!!

Made It Through Another Week

Well. We made it through another week!!! Only a few more before I get to come home for a visit...can't wait! :)
Ruby had to go in for her 1 year well check and a physical for daycare on Tuesday. She thought it was all pretty fun until she had to get her shots...then not so much fun. She had to get four shots Tuesday and has to go back in a month to get 5 more!!! :( My poor baby. But anyways...I had to take her back on Thursday b/c she has been starting to show signs that her reflux is coming back (probably outgrowing her medicine dosage). She was okay while we were sitting in the waiting room but wouldn't you just know it that the same nurse who gave her the shots on Tuesday was the same nurse who came to get her from the waiting room on Thursday. OH MY GOSH...Ruby just went completely ballistic. I have never seen her act that way....like she just had a total flashback. She did NOT want that nurse touching her. She tried to crawl off of the countertop scale and screamed and writhed so much that the nurse never was able to get her length measured on the table. She calmed down again once we got into an exam room and the nurse left, but panicked all over again when the doctor came in. She was so upset that she tried to get out of the room and literally walked smack into the door and just bounced off of it. So that just helped matters so much more!! It was one of those moments that if you saw it on America's Funniest Home Videos, you would just die laughing but when it's your child you have to fight back the laughter and try to keep her calm. We were very happy when that appointment was over and hopefully she forgets about everything by next month!
We really haven't had very much excitement going on with anything else around here. It was a pretty tame week at school. Just a lot of note-taking. Next week will be the killer week! I have an exam in Psychology on Monday, a Lab Exam on Wednesday for A&P and a lecture exam on Friday for A&P. It just gets really difficult to get down to studying really hard having Mike and Ruby. I would much rather be spending that time with them playing that reading about the skeletal system or how our personalities are formed! But I know I have to just push through it...I want that job in three years and finally be able to get done and settle somewhere!! Mike is still liking his job...so far. He seems to really be getting to know the guys he is working around and hasn't come home once yet complaining about work. Which is a far cry from his days at Sauders! So everything is going pretty well here other than missing home!!! Can't wait to be back in Ohio soon! Love everyone!

Just Another Manic Monday

Hey hey! :) So, I wanted to get this post up today so that I could say I updated it twice in one week! haha Nobody can say I'm slacking then.
Everything is going pretty good our way right now. I had my first two big exams on this past Friday. One was for Nutrition and the other was in Anatomy and Physiology. I was pretty nervous and did a great job of psyching myself out all last week but got both scores back today and actually got an A on both tests! I cannot put into words my relief. It seems like the first tests always get me all worked up and then if I do good it just really reminds me that I can do this. Although I do need to work on my studying more instead of just cramming the night before the exams. It's so hard to justify studying time though when Ruby and Mike are out in the other room playing and I want to spend time with them so much more than sit in my room alone reading science books!!! It will all be worth the effort in about two and half years though! Just have to keep reminding myself of that.
Mike started his second week of work today and he is really enjoying it. On Wednesday of last week they started working overtime. He has been going into work from 5-3:30 every day except for Sunday, so he will have some major overtime on that first check. We can't wait to get it and feel secure money wise again. It's so scary to be in the in between stage with a little one. We just need to know that if anything happens we have to money to take care of her. Anyways, he is starting to get to know the other guys around him at work and seems to be really settling in nice there. He also was able to get into contact with some of his friends from when he lived here during middle school. He was really excited about that, plus it would be nice to know some other people around here that are our age. It has been, and probably will remain, hard for me to make friends with anyone at school. I am the only person in any of my classes with a kid and a husband. So while most of the other people I am in class with are worried more about going out and having fun I worry about just Mike and Ruby and getting my homework done! But I still have them at least so it will be okay!
I'll get to the good stuff though...I'm sure mostly everyone just wants to hear about how Ruby is doing! :) Our big 1 year old has been having a rough go of it lately. She hasn't been sleeping through the night pretty much since we got here and it is starting to wear on all three of us. I think a lot of it is stress. I know they say babies adjust quickly, but within the last month Ruby has had to leave everyone she knows to move to a different state and be with family she doesn't know as well, she started a new daycare, and had to move out of our room and into her own bedroom. If she's anything like me I'm sure it has stressed her out a little bit too. We are just trying to get her on a good schedule and make sure to give her lots of love to help her settle in some more. If any of you guys have any other advice for us please let me know with a comment or something. We're willing to give anything a shot if it means sleep!!! :)
Anyways...that is really all that is going on here. Oh by the way...I got my plane tickets to come home in October! I can't wait to see everyone!!! I am getting insanely homesick this last week. I think now that everything is settling down here, it has really set in that we moved and I can't just come home whenever I want. I try to keep myself busy whenever I know I'm going to have free time otherwise I end up moping around crying! So my trip in October will be well needed!!! I miss Ohio and my family!!! We love you guys so much!!!

THE BIG 1!!!!

Well, just in case you can't figure it out from the title, Ruby is 1 today!!! Unbelievable!! It seems like just yesterday that we brought her home from the hospital and now here we are a year later and in a completely different state! We had Ruby's birthday party this past Saturday and everything turned out great. I will post some pictures on the Flickr website at some point. The only pictures I have are of the cake! Mike took all videos and no pictures, so I am going to have to get some pictures from Mike's parents.
Ruby was off to her second day of daycare this morning. They were going to celebrate her birthday at snack time with cookies and little hats! :) She absolutely loves it there! She had no problem with us leaving her yesterday (it was her first day!), she just took off to play with the other kids and wouldn't even come back for a hug. When I went to pick her up yesterday she and another little girl had every ball out of the ball cart and were throwing them and chasing them all over! :) The best thing though is that she was nice and worn out by bedtime! :) She actually slept for 12 hours last night, which does not happen almost ever! That made it all worth missing her all day! haha
Mike started his new job yesterday and everything went really well. He said it was mostly just paperwork and safety videos but today he will actually start training with someone out on the floor. He was pretty excited...he thinks it will be a fun and interesting job.
And them I am just still grinding away at my classes!!! :) I have two pretty big exams on Friday so everyone pray for me that day! I want to make sure to keep an A in my nutrition course because if I do, I am exempt from taking the final exam in that class. That means that I would be done for the semester two days earlier which means I could come home two days earlier at Christmas time...that's worth all of the extra work!
Well, just wanted to get a post on here for Ruby's birthday! We miss everyone and can't wait to get home for a visit in October!!! Love you guys!!!
