Made It Through Another Week

Well. We made it through another week!!! Only a few more before I get to come home for a visit...can't wait! :)
Ruby had to go in for her 1 year well check and a physical for daycare on Tuesday. She thought it was all pretty fun until she had to get her shots...then not so much fun. She had to get four shots Tuesday and has to go back in a month to get 5 more!!! :( My poor baby. But anyways...I had to take her back on Thursday b/c she has been starting to show signs that her reflux is coming back (probably outgrowing her medicine dosage). She was okay while we were sitting in the waiting room but wouldn't you just know it that the same nurse who gave her the shots on Tuesday was the same nurse who came to get her from the waiting room on Thursday. OH MY GOSH...Ruby just went completely ballistic. I have never seen her act that way....like she just had a total flashback. She did NOT want that nurse touching her. She tried to crawl off of the countertop scale and screamed and writhed so much that the nurse never was able to get her length measured on the table. She calmed down again once we got into an exam room and the nurse left, but panicked all over again when the doctor came in. She was so upset that she tried to get out of the room and literally walked smack into the door and just bounced off of it. So that just helped matters so much more!! It was one of those moments that if you saw it on America's Funniest Home Videos, you would just die laughing but when it's your child you have to fight back the laughter and try to keep her calm. We were very happy when that appointment was over and hopefully she forgets about everything by next month!
We really haven't had very much excitement going on with anything else around here. It was a pretty tame week at school. Just a lot of note-taking. Next week will be the killer week! I have an exam in Psychology on Monday, a Lab Exam on Wednesday for A&P and a lecture exam on Friday for A&P. It just gets really difficult to get down to studying really hard having Mike and Ruby. I would much rather be spending that time with them playing that reading about the skeletal system or how our personalities are formed! But I know I have to just push through it...I want that job in three years and finally be able to get done and settle somewhere!! Mike is still liking his job...so far. He seems to really be getting to know the guys he is working around and hasn't come home once yet complaining about work. Which is a far cry from his days at Sauders! So everything is going pretty well here other than missing home!!! Can't wait to be back in Ohio soon! Love everyone!

Just Another Manic Monday

Hey hey! :) So, I wanted to get this post up today so that I could say I updated it twice in one week! haha Nobody can say I'm slacking then.
Everything is going pretty good our way right now. I had my first two big exams on this past Friday. One was for Nutrition and the other was in Anatomy and Physiology. I was pretty nervous and did a great job of psyching myself out all last week but got both scores back today and actually got an A on both tests! I cannot put into words my relief. It seems like the first tests always get me all worked up and then if I do good it just really reminds me that I can do this. Although I do need to work on my studying more instead of just cramming the night before the exams. It's so hard to justify studying time though when Ruby and Mike are out in the other room playing and I want to spend time with them so much more than sit in my room alone reading science books!!! It will all be worth the effort in about two and half years though! Just have to keep reminding myself of that.
Mike started his second week of work today and he is really enjoying it. On Wednesday of last week they started working overtime. He has been going into work from 5-3:30 every day except for Sunday, so he will have some major overtime on that first check. We can't wait to get it and feel secure money wise again. It's so scary to be in the in between stage with a little one. We just need to know that if anything happens we have to money to take care of her. Anyways, he is starting to get to know the other guys around him at work and seems to be really settling in nice there. He also was able to get into contact with some of his friends from when he lived here during middle school. He was really excited about that, plus it would be nice to know some other people around here that are our age. It has been, and probably will remain, hard for me to make friends with anyone at school. I am the only person in any of my classes with a kid and a husband. So while most of the other people I am in class with are worried more about going out and having fun I worry about just Mike and Ruby and getting my homework done! But I still have them at least so it will be okay!
I'll get to the good stuff though...I'm sure mostly everyone just wants to hear about how Ruby is doing! :) Our big 1 year old has been having a rough go of it lately. She hasn't been sleeping through the night pretty much since we got here and it is starting to wear on all three of us. I think a lot of it is stress. I know they say babies adjust quickly, but within the last month Ruby has had to leave everyone she knows to move to a different state and be with family she doesn't know as well, she started a new daycare, and had to move out of our room and into her own bedroom. If she's anything like me I'm sure it has stressed her out a little bit too. We are just trying to get her on a good schedule and make sure to give her lots of love to help her settle in some more. If any of you guys have any other advice for us please let me know with a comment or something. We're willing to give anything a shot if it means sleep!!! :)
Anyways...that is really all that is going on here. Oh by the way...I got my plane tickets to come home in October! I can't wait to see everyone!!! I am getting insanely homesick this last week. I think now that everything is settling down here, it has really set in that we moved and I can't just come home whenever I want. I try to keep myself busy whenever I know I'm going to have free time otherwise I end up moping around crying! So my trip in October will be well needed!!! I miss Ohio and my family!!! We love you guys so much!!!

THE BIG 1!!!!

Well, just in case you can't figure it out from the title, Ruby is 1 today!!! Unbelievable!! It seems like just yesterday that we brought her home from the hospital and now here we are a year later and in a completely different state! We had Ruby's birthday party this past Saturday and everything turned out great. I will post some pictures on the Flickr website at some point. The only pictures I have are of the cake! Mike took all videos and no pictures, so I am going to have to get some pictures from Mike's parents.
Ruby was off to her second day of daycare this morning. They were going to celebrate her birthday at snack time with cookies and little hats! :) She absolutely loves it there! She had no problem with us leaving her yesterday (it was her first day!), she just took off to play with the other kids and wouldn't even come back for a hug. When I went to pick her up yesterday she and another little girl had every ball out of the ball cart and were throwing them and chasing them all over! :) The best thing though is that she was nice and worn out by bedtime! :) She actually slept for 12 hours last night, which does not happen almost ever! That made it all worth missing her all day! haha
Mike started his new job yesterday and everything went really well. He said it was mostly just paperwork and safety videos but today he will actually start training with someone out on the floor. He was pretty excited...he thinks it will be a fun and interesting job.
And them I am just still grinding away at my classes!!! :) I have two pretty big exams on Friday so everyone pray for me that day! I want to make sure to keep an A in my nutrition course because if I do, I am exempt from taking the final exam in that class. That means that I would be done for the semester two days earlier which means I could come home two days earlier at Christmas time...that's worth all of the extra work!
Well, just wanted to get a post on here for Ruby's birthday! We miss everyone and can't wait to get home for a visit in October!!! Love you guys!!!

I PROMISE TO START POSTING MORE! :)

Okay...so every time I have talked to anyone from home they always ask if I'm going to put a new post up soon! We are finally getting settled into an actual schedule, so I should finally be able to keep up with this thing!! :)
Everything is going great here other than the fact that we miss home and everybody there! Mike got hired in at AGCO which is a big factory right across the street from our apartment. He starts on Monday and will be building combines and other farm machinery. Blake was completely amazed at this when we told him about it! Mike is really excited about it actually. He said it looks like a really fun (but still a tough) job. At least it won't just be standing on a pack line putting a part in a box all night. Plus, they said they have lots of overtime and they also have pretty great health insurance which is a big step up from Sauders. So Mike starts that job on Monday morning!
Ruby also gets to start her daycare on Monday. At first, every daycare we called was full and we got stuck trying to find a babysitter which I was not comfortable AT ALL with. I did not want to take my baby to some stranger who has like 10 kids running all over the place and can't keep a good eye on all of them. We just happened to notice a flyer at the Health Dept. when we went to update Ruby's shot record and called and they had ONE opening for Ruby's age group. So we drove over there and talked with them and I gave them my big sob story about how we just moved there and we didn't know anyone and really didn't want to take her to a babysitter. They called us back the next day and the director said even though there were a couple other people ahead of us on the wait list that they decided to give the spot to Ruby! YAY!! So we got to go meet her teachers and see where she will go yesterday. It is a really great facility and it has a tornado room which made grandma feel much better!! :)
I am almost through my second week of classes and am pretty content right now. It is hard to make friends since most of the people in my classes are 18 or 19 and have completely different lifestyles than I do anymore. Most of them are just worried about having fun and I'm worried about taking care of a family and getting done with school. I guess at least I won't be distracted from my classes that way.
We are having Ruby's first birthday party this Saturday!! It is completely insane that she is going to be one already!!! Oh yeah...and she is now walking all over the place!!! It makes her look so much bigger than when she was just crawling around. She also had her first big acident while walking. She fell a couple days ago and cracker her chin on a table leg and split it open. We almost ended up going to the hospital but I stopped bleeding pretty quickly and she didn't seem to be in a whole lot of pain. She'll probably just have a good scar. :(
The only other news I really have right now is that Ruby and I will be coming home from October 15-21. So hopefully we will get to see everyone and I will get to get a haircut!!! :) I miss my hairstylist!
I will try to get some more pictures uploaded onto the Flickr website soon and we are going to get family pictures done for Ruby's birthday tonight so i will post the website to look at those online soon too!
WE MISS EVERYONE SO MUCH!!! Can't wait to come home in October and see you all!!!
LOVE, Mike, Al, and Ruby
